Scitsu Tachometers
Scitsu tacho’s are produced
in two basic types; The Standard classic version with built
in re-chargeable batteries and what is called the ‘B’
types which work from the 12v battery on the bike.
Standard Tachos. These are
recharged from a 12v car or motorcycle battery and will
run for 8 hrs at least from one charge. The standard version
picks up its signal inductively by simply taping the sensor
wire from tacho to the H.T. lead. Removing the dummy jack-plug
in the side of the tacho switches the tacho ‘ON’
replacing the plug conserves the battery by switching it
‘OFF’.
The ‘Standard’ tacho is the favourite
among Road Racers and especially the classic class. All ‘Standard
tacho’s come with a special charging lead. No other
lead should be used as damage will occur!
‘B’ Type Tachometers. These come
in versions ‘B1’&’B2’ and run
from the battery on the bike. The ‘B1’ picks up
its signal inductively from the H.T.lead in the same way the
standard tacho does. However some modern bikes have what is
called ‘direct coil’ or ‘coil on the plug’
where there is no H.T. leads. In this case the ‘B2’
is hard wired to the coil feed wire or the original tacho
output from the ignition ‘black box’.
All Tachos come with a three legged mounting
bracket and a/v rubbers which must be used or performance
and reliability will be compromised.
Temperature gauges
These come in two versions; The ‘Standard’
2.0” dia. capillary type which is almost a replica of
classic TZ type and the rectangular ‘Digi-temp’
which is the more modern internal battery driven digital LCD
display. Both types come with the sensor ‘pod’
to screw into the engine or radiator in either 16.0mm x 1.5
thread or 1/8” BSP. These are the most popular sizes
but others can be made to special order.
